Preston Beery, a senior at Faith Lutheran High in Nevada, swept the elite boys discus throw and shot put competitions at the 84th NIKE Chandler Rotary Invitational at Austin Field in Chandler, Ariz. Beery prevailed in the discus with a mark of 174-2 (53.08m) and repeated in the shot put with a lifetime-best 63-3 (19.27m), becoming the first male competitor to secure back-to-back shot put victories since former Desert Edge High of Arizona standout Tyson Jones in 2017-18. Beery is also the first male athlete to win both the discus and shot put in the same year since Jones in 2018, in addition to becoming the fifth competitor in meet history to surpass 60 feet and 170 feet on the same day.
